AWRF Talks Forged Eye Hooks and Button Sockets with Associated Wire Rope & Rigging at AWRF P.I.E. 2013
AWRF strives to bring the latest international technology in the lifting, rigging and load securement industry to its Product and Information Exhibition (PIE) and the last show in Ft Worth, Texas was no exception. Brett Woodland of Associated Wire Rope & Rigging, AWR&R ( sales [at] awrrinc.com ) showed us two great products coming out of Europe; the GN line of forged eye hooks and RopeBlock’s spelter button socket.
The GN forged eye hook can be used in land based and offshore applications. It has a larger redesigned eye to accommodate not only pins but thimbles too. The capacities range from 7 ton to 100 ton and now that thimbles can be passed through the eye the hooks work great in assemblies. These hooks are made out of grade 8 alloy and have a 4:1 design factor. Non-Destructive testing and proof load certification come with the hook from the factory upon request.
Spelter Button sockets from the Dutch company RopeBlock are designed for some of the newer European mobile cranes from manufactures such as Liebherr and Demag. The pin spacing is based on these models and it has a tab to prevent the button from rotating. Once the socket is poured (following standard procedures) it will achieve 100% efficiency on the strength of the rope.
Nice job Brett, thanks for being part of our new product and technology video series.
